Creating a Narrative to Support HubSpot’s Trialers

Before they purchase a paid plan, HubSpot allows users to sign up for a free two-week trial. The problem was that when users did so, they were dropped in a product dashboard with no guidance on what features to try first or what value these features would bring to their business.

To help solve this problem, we created narratives (or “demos”) for some of our top features. In this sandbox environment, users do not necessarily learn how to use the product (that would be better accomplished by a shepherd tour). Instead, we focused on showing them the high-level value of the feature through a storyline woven together by example use cases. With only 14 days in a trial, this seemed like a better way for them to absorb what HubSpot features could do for their business.

In the following screens, you can see an example of a demo for our workflows (or marketing automation) feature.
